NYC Conference to Examine Implications of Altering Diagnoses of Mental Illness
Proposed changes to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) may have radical repercussions on future psychiatric diagnosis and clinical practice. An October 12th conference, held jointly by The NYU Silver School of Social Work and NYC NASW, will review the changes, discuss the possible motivations and rationale behind them, identify controversies and explore the broader intellectual issues. Stella V. Pappas, LCSW-R, ACSW, ICL Chief Operating Officer, will share a perspective on the social work implications for agency work during the afternoon panel discussion.
